I once worked with this Indian chap, SAP expert. He was indeed very knowledgable and despite being rather smug and smarmy was easy enough to get along with.

Once day my developers came to me with a problem regarding some web services he had specified. I read the specifications and they were shockingly bad. More conjecture than specification.

I told them to stop work on that particular area of the system, reorganised the sprints for that and the next two weeks to we didn't lose any time then raised an issue about spec quality.

He came to see me, and said he agreed the quality wasn't there, but it wasn't about quality it was about deadlines. I was shocked. Horrified. For me quality is everything.

The thing I learned, now I look back and reflect on this is that in a way he was right. You see, ex ClientCo hired this Indian consultancy because they had a massive off shore capability, which kept the costs down. Ex ClientCo deliberately chose the cheapest option. A bit like SY02's uncle John who keeps buying power tools from places like BidUpTv and then moans they are crap.

True what they say, that dear costs once (in most cases anyway).

So the point here is that my learned Indian colleague was saying as two sides of the time cost quality triangle were fixed, the quality had to slip and that was fine my him as it was part of his project brief as it was what ClientCo had asked for.

So if the pattern here is that greedy companies want to hear that there is such a thing as a free lunch, be stupid enough to believe it, and then get configuration managed up to a decent price in the end with an Indian firm holding them bang to rights on each and every one of the requests for change then I'd say that's shrewd business, and hats off to them.

So I don't blame the bobs, I blame the thicky braying hoo-rays that think they can deliver a project for 1/4 of a reasonable price without any compromise on quality or service.

I agree that some of these posts are a bit off but I do understand why people are writing this. There is a lot of legitimate frustration out there about the offshoring and people feel the need to vent. Most will express their issues in civil way, but as always, some will write things most would describe as distasteful and grossly unfair. We can just overlook those, but lets not trample free speech, lets keep it real. I believe that admins are doing good job punishing posters who crossed the line.

I personally experienced fair share of subtle and not so subtle racists abuse in the office. Straight to my face or within my earshot. If someone feels the need to behave like jerk, let them do it in the safety of the forum, its mostly harmless that way.

But the fact is most of the offshoring decisions are made by local IT director or heads, not forced by any offshore company. If any one to be kicked they are the ones. So are we targeting the wrong people?

I work with and have really good and close Indian friends whom are British citizens. They are just as angry as anyone over Bobs coming here and taking away jobs.

Bobs are cheaper, that’s why they are given visas, they are not better at their jobs in fact they are a lot worse.

Bobs often have bogus qualifications, my Indian friends tell me of their experiences of how certificates are bought in India.

If you want to see racism; go to India where the cast system is rife.

If you want to see poverty next to riches, go to India.

If you want to see people do number twos in the street, go to India.

If you want to see people chuck their rubbish in the street, go to India.
