Why can’t it be treated as individual behaviour?

I have to share my recent experience. In my last project I had chance to work with an Aussie guy, decent block, experienced guy – but only problem is stinks very bad. If he is anywhere near - your nose will detect him before your eyes. But I never thought all Aussies are like him. Also I was sitting next to a local guy - good friendly guy only problem is he sweats a lot & smells very bad. I never though that’s general UK feature either.

In my current role I work with an experienced older Manager, very friendly guy, but only problem is if he is any where near stinks very badly. Today I had to leave a meeting with him just to get fresh air.! But I do work with couple of other friendly locals as well who do not have these issues. So I will never paint all locals in the same way.

I hate to break it to you but these people don't really stink - there is probably something seriously wrong with your hooter (and before you read anything into it that was a medical point not anti-semitic.)

So my advice is Stop this racist rants & treat your experience as behaviour of individuals. I am amazed how badly IT guys from India ("Bobs") are painted here. If they are so bad why they are recruited more & more here. (Please see other post in General complaining about service and why accountants think it's ok to deliver poorly - there's no point in paying top dollar to deliver poorly on purpose now is there?) I know many of us contractors lost jobs due to them & anger towards them are reasonable in that way. But the way it’s expressed in this forum recently is really shocking. To be honest you can have technically strong bright Indian IT professionals and not so bright guys from the same IT outsourcer in the same project – Same way you get local IT professionals of varying capability.

For your reference I just copied some recent headers from this forum. It’s a real shame to have these racist rants are allowed in this so called professional forum..!!! Being watching this forum in last 6+ years i can see some general pattern from some individuals in similar language.

So please don’t paint people from entire country on basis on your experience in one or two individuals & stop these racist rants in this forum. Thanks.

You can't say black, you have to say coloured.

Can't think the op is for real. Smells of socks.

That said the general thrust of it is how I've been feeling for a while. I think for me if you start a thread about this "bob" with funny hair, that's funny. It soon degenerates into all bobs have funny hair then that's racist.

On that note I would like to share a story about this bob at last ClientCo that had quite the worst rug in the history of rugs. It was very synthetic, nylony and not even any attempt to position it was made. His code name between me and this other BA was "wiggy".

One day we were in a workshop in this stuffy room and after an hour of so, someone fetched an oscillating fan, plonked it in the middle of the table we were sat round and put the fan on warp speed.

After a few oscillations, everyone silently enjoying the cool blast for a few seconds the BA turns to me and mutters "shall I go and get wiggy?"

We were corpsing very unprofessionally for 10 minutes, but never let on what about as wiggy s boss was in the room.
Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

Not joined in with the Bobs stuff as had no problems with Indians in places I've worked either, very much one of the better migrant groups in my experience, the legal ones anyway.

However, it is inevitable that when people's pay and prospects are affected by any group they are going to react negatively and who can blame them? Take a look at the treatment of migrants from other African countries to South Africa and you will see how very civilised a few digs at "Bobs" is. Maybe you should also look at how very unreciprocal our trade with India is. I am not sure that boosting profits of some companies and providing what is effectively cheap training so that India can eventually replace what few industries we still have is a good long term plan. Our government needs to act to ensure that, if we do take in others, it is actually to the benefit of British people.

As for "treat people as individuals" in the way you appear to mean it, that is nonsense. People we actually meet, yes, but to not react to the impact that whole groups have on us because we haven't personally encountered the individuals in them is pure daft.

In this forum we don't think all Bobs smell. But we've found that a greater proportion of them do, compared to us natives. Hence when we say they smell, it is an exaggeration of a real trend. It's not racist.

One thing I like about this forum is it's honesty and lack of intentional bias.
I think what you are finding shocking is the clear air of rational debate here when all you're used to is the stink of politically correct poison too common in the UK's media.

Pretty much the same here, no bad experiences so far with 'Bobs' I've met from my time on the farm. You get odour problems with pretty much every group of people IMHO. I remember working in the Home Office and there was a particularly pungent smell coming from a very well spoken white civil servant ... and don't get me started on the fashion disasters!

As had been mentioned previously on this forum usually when a country imports foreign labour is because they cannot satisfy the demand from the local labour pool. However that isn't always the case as companies reducing labour cost is the pretty much the only driver to go for foreign labour in some industries and constant lobbying going on at government level is such that they get their way. The UK isn't the exception as this is happening across the western world.

I am on both sides as I'm currently doing some work abroad as the local labour market there doesn't have the necessary skills.

At least we're not racist like them 'Mericans:

Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.
