If you're on the express route, you can be quite far north very quickly. Newcastle is only 3hrs away from King's Cross though that train only stops at Newcastle, Durham (no idea why), York and Doncaster before getting into the south. Still, it does mean I could have a pretty stress-free weekly commute and even pop home mid-week should I want to.

Maybe your girls would much rather they saw you during the week than go to a "top fee-paying school".Originally posted by Sausage Surprise View PostI live up north - contract in London during the week and can therefore have a very nice home and send my girls to a top fee paying school. Simple.....

Of course, then you're held to ransom by the train companies and have no option but to fork out thousands in travel each year. Not to mention the extortionate station car parks.Originally posted by formant View PostYep. One doesn't even have to move particularly far up north. I'm still only an hours train journey away from Central London. Somehow, having a nice house in a nice area matters more to me than my postcode.
