I agree with OP. It can be a bit despairing when the sort of place you would actually aspire to live in costs 750k+.
My advice is to buy a tulip hole for cash and then save up. When you aren't rinsing 1-2k month on rent or mortgage interest it will be a lot less work all told.Comment

There's a lot of truth in that as long as you leverage the cash you are saving and don't spunk it.Originally posted by Kanye View PostI agree with OP. It can be a bit despairing when the sort of place you would actually aspire to live in costs 750k+.

I think I must live on another planet. Price of a flat in your gaff is more than the cost of a 4 bed detached where I live.Originally posted by doodab View PostAverage house price

That is the whole borough. I live in the nicest bit.
Might not be the most affluent area (is anywhere in wales?) but its a nice place to live....
See my house is even worth less than the general average house price across the UK (£250K)
Now if you want to see really cheap houses take a look at the figures for Blaenau Gwent. Arse end of nowhere mind.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

It's sort of crazy when in IT, a bob can work remotely for £5 an hour and yet to afford these houses we need upwards of £50 an hour for the next 10 or 20 years (depending on how long it takes to pay down the debt).Originally posted by ZARDOZ View PostWhy the hell would anyone pay a fortune to Live in a modest house in silly ***** valley darn sarf. I'd love to get out of London, I think it's (mostly) a tuliphole, unfortunately ms doodab is born and bred and hates the idea of leaving.Originally posted by psychocandy View PostI think I must live on another planet. So is mine, and it's a good-size 4-bed detached on the outskirts of town, bordering onto the countryside. Couldn't ask for much more (well, ok, I'd like an extra bedroom or two maybe with the new baby's impending arrival).Originally posted by psychocandy View PostI think I must live on another planet. Where I live 500K gets you a 4 bed detached house with a couple of acres thrown in and lots of character on the house. For that price in London you get a 2 bedroom flat. I just do not understand what the attraction is in living in London.Vote Corbyn ! Save this country !Comment

If you're a brain-dead dull non-imaginative IT geek, you can no doubt live anywhere.Originally posted by fullyautomatix View PostI just do not understand what the attraction is in living in London.
If you like the theatre, the best restaurants, the best museums, art galleries, great village-like areas in the centre of the greatest metropolis in the world, rail access to Europe, not to mention the most higly-paid interesting cutting-edge work (for some of us), then you can't live anywhere else
Oh and not to mention if you got on the housing ladder early, you can retire early with a large lump sum and buy a decent pile anywhere in the world on the proceeds.Hard Brexit now!

I know all that, but do you need to live in London to get access to those great museums and galleries ? Where I live I can get into Central London in an hour. I still have access to best restaurants and best this and that.Originally posted by sasguru View PostIf you're a brain-dead dull non-imaginative IT geek, you can no doubt live anywhere.
