Depends where you live in London, innit? If you have a 4/5 bed detached with garden and drive in one of the better areas, why would you want the extra hassle of commuting from outside.
(Having said which, we've moved 30 mins outside of London, but that was to free up capital for a BTL.
if not for that I wouldn't have moved).
If all you can afford is a two-bed flat in a dodgy area then fine, I agree, live outside.
    Hard Brexit now!

My house is worth three times the detached average for the area and I'm mortgage free. I also have a four hour daily commute into London. Everything's a trade off.

Yeah, same here. Don't need to have all that on my doorstep. Value a quaint and quiet neighborhood more than entertainment in walking distance.

Oh and not to mention if you got on the housing ladder early, you can retire early with a large lump sum and buy a decent pile anywhere in the world on the proceeds.
A little harsh, How often would one visit the museums and art galleries? Offset the benefits against: The modest and cramped accommodation, the high crime rate, the general miserableness of the occupants. I'd rather live outside surrounded by my land living on my terms not some fluffed up ghetto, and come in when I want/have to.

Perhaps, but how often does the average Londoner actually take advantage of all those things? I bet they sit in the pub or at home in front of the TV like everyone else.

And you don't even need to live in London to do all those things... 30-60min train ride gets you into the still-expensive-but-not-ludicrous SE.

              Got to laugh at sassy.

Must live in London, walking distance to xyz, etc.

Then he moves out of London.

It's almost likes he just makes it all up.

You're assuming that quaint and quiet neighborhoods, spacious accomodation, low crime, happy inhabitant parts of London don't exist.
                Maybe not on your budget.

It was a toss up between the convenience of London and getting a nice regular income from a BTL.
Wish I could have afforded both.

Agree dont have to live in london to get the benefits. I prefer ducking in when i need/want to. I can be in to kings cross in 35 mins, and I live in a quiet market town with lots of green fields nearby. My 4 bed detached cost me 327k.

Apparently not on yours either. *shrug*

Difference is - you'd settle for less for the convenience of living in London.
Some of us prefer a good standard of living over the London postcode.
