Au contraire. I don't have a million either but I do have everything I want. The only issue is how to keep it that way into old age.Originally posted by ChimpMaster View PostReally though, £1m these days is not a lot of money when you get to a certain point in your life. Don't get me wrong: I don't have a million but even if I did I can't see it giving me everything I need (want?).And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

Yes I remember the first property I bought in zone 2 in London: large 2-bed garden flat cost £55K.Originally posted by formant View PostBut no doubt buying a few decades ago in London and retiring a tad further north will leave you with some pretty impressive housing.
Saw it sold recently for £350K. I guess that would get you a house up north.
Shame about the Northern muppets you'd have to associate with though.Hard Brexit now!

It's incredibly OTT, as many similar properties are.Originally posted by mudskipper View PostIndeed - that house is hideous.
You'd hope someone buying in that price-range would have a good renovation budget though.Comment

Money can't buy taste but it can hire a decent interior designer.Originally posted by mudskipper View PostIndeed - that house is hideous. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

Really this debate isn't about property but about what kind of person you are:
urban sophisticate or dull countrified bumpkin.
Hard Brexit now!

Actually I think that houses like that should not be sold, and if they won't be inherited then they should be appointed with lifelong residents to acct as guardians, selected on the basis of tests of taste, culture and good breeding. It's quite depressing to see the damage an oik with more cash than taste can do to a fine building.Originally posted by formant View PostIt's incredibly OTT, as many similar properties are.

Unfortunately everyone thinks their own taste is best.Originally posted by formant View PostYou have a point there....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...
