+1 Granted I don't know all the south east but in Bucks (with Grammar schools) you can easily find a good 4 bed house within the catchment area for £750k.

Personally I will stay up north and ensure that I raise the standards of the twin's secondary school enough that it won't matter. The £1/2m I save will do wonders for the twins in the longer term as I throw a massive house deposit at them when the time is right.

I don't get the obsession with 'good schools'. Surely as a middle class parent you can do your bit to fill in whatever the school doesn't cover? Surely if you've had a decent education yourself you can ensure that your kids aren't left behind?

Or you could just move a tad further north. *shrug*
I'm in catchment of two 'outstanding' primaries and I don't even care about or believe in Ofsted ratings. Are adequate schools really so rare down south?

Don't be silly, the modern parent is far too busy to spend time with their children.

That modern parent would still have the option to invest in some private tutoring if necessary...

Yes because the teachers can't afford to live there so move north given the choice.

                  Fair enough, can't blame 'em.

I live up north - contract in London during the week and can therefore have a very nice home and send my girls to a top fee paying school. Simple.....

Yep. One doesn't even have to move particularly far up north. I'm still only an hours train journey away from Central London. Somehow, having a nice house in a nice area matters more to me than my postcode.
