Fair play, I'm sure we all wish we could have pulled this one off.
Sounds like he may have been worth employing cos of his initiative.Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.Comment

Brilliant ... so was that going on undetected for several years?
So how come that the quality of the outsourced development was so high? it is a lesson to learn about how to outsource. If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.Comment

Why the **** wouldn't you put him in charge? He's clearly smart and able to recruit and manage offshore teams, just what the modern IT dept is crying out for. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

There are good developers out there if you can find them... and a developer would be far more able to figure out which are the good ones than a management-consultancy discussion.Originally posted by mos View PostBrilliant ... so was that going on undetected for several years?

Indeed, but he's clearly a non-conformist; not the sort of person many corporations hire or retain. He broke company policies, he didn't abide by the rules, he was naughty. The fact the got the work done effectively and could probably do even more valuable work is completely irrelevant and of no consequence in any hiring and firing decision.Originally posted by doodab View PostWhy the **** wouldn't you put him in charge? 9:00 a.m. – Arrive and surf Reddit for a couple of hours. Watch cat videos
11:30 a.m. – Take lunch
1:00 p.m. – Ebay time
2:00-ish p.m – Facebook updates, LinkedIn
4:30 p.m. – End-of-day update e-mail to management
5:00 p.m. – Go home
So is that a typical day of one of you home working developers then? And what is it with cat videos?Comment
