    From the Beeb article:
"Evidence even suggested he had the same scam going across multiple companies in the area. All told, it looked like he earned several hundred thousand dollars a year, and only had to pay the Chinese consulting firm about $50,000 (£31,270) annually."
    Nice.

I wouldn't employ him. He's a massive security risk. What he did isn't technically clever enough to employ him like you would some hackers.

    Was he prosecuted?

9:00 a.m. – Arrive and surf Reddit for a couple of hours. Watch cat videos

    11:30 a.m. – Take lunch

    1:00 p.m. – Ebay time

    2:00-ish p.m – Facebook updates, LinkedIn

    4:30 p.m. – End-of-day update e-mail to management

    5:00 p.m. – Go home

So is that a typical day of one of you home working developers then? And what is it with cat videos?

Indeed, but he's clearly a non-conformist; not the sort of person many corporations hire or retain. He broke company policies, he didn't abide by the rules, he was naughty. The fact the got the work done effectively and could probably do even more valuable work is completely irrelevant and of no consequence in any hiring and firing decision.

There are good developers out there if you can find them... and a developer would be far more able to figure out which are the good ones than a management-consultancy discussion.

They say they fired him, but I hope they kept the outsourced team who were clearly better than their own people.

Fair play, I'm sure we all wish we could have pulled this one off.

Sounds like he may have been worth employing cos of his initiative.
