    Ok I called Card company and they said I can't claim it back because I cancelled the transaction and they don't have to refund the money by card by law (their policy happens to be to "refund" it by cheque)

    any idea what to do here - or am I going to have to go to court?

        Called the head office after sending a letter. They don't seem in the slightest bothered by my threats to take them to court or the fact they are not refunding my money!

        Really need to start contacting organisations about this...

                    That's because they don't think you'll do it. If everyone who threatened to sue took companies to court, there would be no time to do any business.

                    So stop moaning and threatening, do it. Worst case, you cause them the hassle of fighting it and it costs you £30 in court costs.
