If you believe that the basis of civilisation are the central religious morals (the last 6 commandments) and these make sense for the good of humanity then it seems reasonable to follow them. I include the Sabbath as God was a work life balance guru as well.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostI guess the answer to this is quite simple:
Do you believe God is fair and just? If the answer is no then there is little point obeying Him or following a religion.
Asking for acceptance to heaven need not necessarily follow.
I doubt those that attend Sunday to atone for the sins of the week so they can commit more next week are in my opinion are probably less virtuous and deserving than those that don't believe and don't 'sin'. Bring on the camels.Comment

Probably a boring and simplistic question for believers, but I'll ask it;
One is quite a friendly individual who does his bit for society, helps othersout when possible, considers others when taking decisions and is basically a good egg, but doesn't pray or practise a religion as he's not convinced that there's a god. The other is a complete asshole who tramples all over other people's needs, enriches himself through enslavement, kills a few people along the way but prays and goes to church regularly.
Who goes to hell? Who goes to heaven?And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

The Jews, you mean? Why did he pick them?Originally posted by d000hg View PostAnd yes in fact the OT does show God as continually forgiving his peoples' wanton disobedience, time and time again. .Hard Brexit now!

If I follow your slightly torturous English correctly, I agree with you. That's nothing like Christianity as described in the Bible. But I daren't go further lest I be accused of preachingOriginally posted by vetran View PostI doubt those that attend Sunday to atone for the sins of the week so they can commit more next week are in my opinion are probably less virtuous and deserving than those that don't believe and don't 'sin'. I did when I mentioned infanticide, but perhaps wasn't clear. God murdered all the first born sons of Egypt because of Pharaoh's disobedience. Or was it execution, as God is a legitimate judicial authority?Originally posted by d000hg View PostWho said anything about murder?The material prosperity of a nation is not an abiding possession; the deeds of its people are.

I reckon at base we're all bad people who often have a desire to do, and occasionally manage to do, good things.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostI think there is inherent good in all people but depending on the surroundings, upbringing, evil actions etc. this gradually goes away...
The immune system is evidence of ignorance about science and evolution...Originally posted by doomage View PostSo what should be taught in schools? The immune system is not evidence of God, it is evidence of ignorance about science and evolution.
I'll assume you made a typo.
I think science should be taught in science lessons.
Some people see that the complexity of the immune system is evidence toward the universe being designed. That should be taught (that some people have this view - not that this view is fact) in lessons that look at human beliefs, attitudes, philosophy etc.
If faith doesn't produce good works, then it's likely there is no faith there, and therefore no salvation. (Note, it is the faith that saves, not the good works). The latter falls into this category. The former is already in this category as he's chosen not to have faith. Therefore both are consigned to the rubbish heap of hell.One is quite a friendly individual who does his bit for society, helps othersout when possible, considers others when taking decisions and is basically a good egg, but doesn't pray or practise a religion as he's not convinced that there's a god. Who goes to hell? Who goes to heaven?
That's one theological approach anyway.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment
