Reading AussieLong's original post it looks like the classic case of two loafers in the bank trying to take some credit from the people who did all the hard work and then (at the last minute) trying to gain some sort of plausibility for associating themselves with the potential success of the project by throwing random work at the people who actually grafted on the project (thus inadvertently delaying the project).
Don't think it only happens to you, one mate of mine did a solo project which had a degree of success at an investment bank, then his boss lied and claimed he wrote the majority of the code himself and sacked my contractor mate when he started to grumble about this, the boss or his toadies couldn't maintain the project as they had not written any of the code and the project was subsequently scrapped.
