Overall a great show with some elements that were amazing and others that were weak... but about 10X less twee and crap than I expected. I thought the first 10min was setting the tone, but the industrial revolution scene was very cool and the techy side was first-rate.

Very British but that's right, the worst bit was the 200 teams walking around but I guess they couldn't avoid it?

    And good on 'er Majesty.

Yes, we all remarked on his salute round my way and had to laugh.

All it needed was his other hand across his top lip.

Not deleted at all; a bunch of muppets who can't spell his name (and probably struggle spelling their own) were unable to find his account, and started tweeting that he'd closed it down in the face of public ire, rather than jumping to the more likely conclusion that they aren't competent to use Twitter.

          For the record:
          1. The most leftie opening ceremony I have ever seen - more than Beijing, the capital of a communist state! Welfare tribute next?

          2. Thank God the athletes have arrived! Now we can move on from leftie multi-cultural crap. Bring back red arrows, Shakespeare and the Stones!

          3. Seems my tweet has been misunderstood. I was talking about the way it was handled in the show, not multiculturalism itself

He has, in fact, shown himself to be appreciative of at least one foreign culture: he was sacked by David Cameron from the position of PPS in the Department of Transport after going on a stag do where they dressed in Nazi uniforms (which he, personally, had hired for the occasion), and gave Nazi salutes for the camera :nazi:

I looked him up as I think all the newspapers including the Torygraph wrote a story on his tweet.

I think he didn't like the NHS celebration in the ceremony. He obviously forgot the NHS was founded in the same year when London last held the Olympics.

He's been quoted as complaining about the inclusion of rap music too, which possibly explains what he was driving at with his reference to "the stones" in the second tweet.

I thought that the show was great! I watched it twice (although I skipped watching all the Olympians the second time).

It made me all nostalgic for all the things I liked about living in the UK (and that includes the culture and diversity Mr Tory MP), brought a tear to my eye. Nearly had me on the first plane back.

I thought he'd come 2nd based on the reporting. Is this the tone that's going to run throughout?
