Make sure you leave the teaching of spelling to your wife.
I'm with others in that a six weeker every year or two sounds like a better bet to me.Comment

My wife has two stages within a contract.Originally posted by Old Hack View PostOtherwise, solid advice.
Not too sure what to think really. Contractor mentality tells me to hold on until the ride ends, but the kids are growing old, and, realistically, if I am going to do it, I will have to do it now as the eldest needs to be back for her 11 plus.
Starting to get worried I would either go insane with a year off, or enjoy it too much. However, I work from home 2 days a week, and am away for 3, and I am secretly, and not without guilt, happy to get away for the first night sometimes...
I am sure having a long time off would be good for us.
Not sure, just not sure.
3 months luxury also sounds great.
1) Baby you are working away too much and the kids and I am missing you.... ( about two months into any contract)
2) Go and get another job you are getting under my feet and in my way
(about two weeks after I finish any contract...)
Seriously you say you are old. How about your wife? Would taking her out of work for a year ruin her chances of working when she got back? (have many 50 something mates that are all out on their arses because they thought it was a great idea to eat the VR cheese and do something.
The kids will have plenty of time to do this sort of thing for themselves when they are in their gap year. You can do it without them when you put the extra time in and retire a little earlier...
I would ride the train into the ground and wait until the contractor market has been stabbed to death by IR35 or bob's are us!Comment

That's exactly what she said to me, as we enjoyed a post-coital cigarette yesterday lunchtime.Originally posted by Old Hack View PostShes gone from being a commited contractor, to full time mum, and I think the lack of social interaction with her peers, and not other stay at home mums, is getting to her. .Hard Brexit now!
