I like to take lots of time off anyway so a furlough is a happy time for me. Rate cuts aren't.

How do you deal with forced time off?

Lets be clear here. Forcing contractors to take time off next week because a large majority of permies are going to be off isn't exactly a sign the company is in trouble. It is because there will be so many permies off they are worried your time will not be effectively used.
Next you are going to be upset you can't work over xmas or something....
There is a big difference between an adhoc event that is affecting everyone and a project in freefall...'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

I'm actually off this week - life is too short to chase every last penny."I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."

Let me provide some more info:
2 permies left in the last week (from a relatively small team). I have a pretty large workload as a result. Permies are leaving at other sites as well - they are struggling to find replacements (should tell you something about the kind of place it is).
Also have a read in the "Grim Places to work" thread for more info.
After all of that they tell us not to come in next week.... I guess I should be happy to get out of here for a week or so but I am gonna lose a fair amount of money which I could do with at the moment.Comment

Well you've put the wheels in motion so perhaps it could be a blessing that you've got next week free to focus on securing a better paid, more interesting role. Look for the positives.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostLet me provide some more info:

I would disagree with that actually and say it's a fairly strong indicator.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostLets be clear here. Forcing ALL contractors to take a full week off sounds like a directive being enforced by finance not by need. If it was due to their being no work then the enforced week off would be on a departmental basis.
Of course I could be wrong in this caseCoffee's for closersComment

You're doing exactly the right thing, running around shouting your mouth off like a complete pillock.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostLast time this happened to me was with Barclays last year. Next thing to happen was the rate cuts.... OTT you say?
Might I suggest you take a leaf out of MF's book and chin the project manager?
