Platypus, this is a good post.

    Don't feed the troll though.

In some cases the agencies do bring in sales (they get paid for that!). Other times my company contracts direct. Hows that relevant to the nature of my business?

As I said, MyCo is a small vendor at present. If it isn't killed by moronic legislation, then perhaps in future it could have a higher brand recognition and might even engage the services of said agencies.

Why is it that whenever a contractor has a post count less than 100, all regulars leap on him and call him a troll, and express opinions so contrarian that they end up sounding like sock puppets for agents and/or Hector?

Bit of a generalisation. Sure we are 'temporary' in the sense that we arent permanent chattles of the employer. But do agency 'temps' pay Corporation Tax, VAT, have PI \ PL insurance etc, etc?

Clearly as contractors, we are neither 'temps' nor permies so the laws set out to 'protect' them cant be used as a one size fits all.

I'm a temp wherever I go. I know that. The niche area I work in means all my work is project based, and I am in when they start, out when they finish. I don't source the roles, apart from when previous companies come back for me and I charge a premium because I understand all of the above.

When the government stop me working this way, I'll work somewhere else, or I will do something else.

                    It's life, it happens.
