    WHS - Hideous things, which I tried for the first and last time when I was about 8.

    Crocs might be more practical on a beach.

      2 things go wrong with flip flops;

      bad walking technique - you can forget about a quick march down to the beach in flip flops and if it's hot enough for flip flops you probably want to slow down anyway

      Your feet need toughening up - although this should only take a few days and if you get the first point then the worst that will happen is you'll get a little bit sore between the toes.

          That's a £1 you're not gonna see again.

          LH, get yourself a decent pair of walking sandals from your local camping emporium. No socks required.

          If you will insist on wearing trainers somewhere hot get some decent thick socks to mop up the juice.

                Did the Imbross gorge in Crete - just under seven miles - in a decent pair of walking sandles quite happily.

                  When I were a lad I wore sandals in the depth of winter. With a combat jacket and shoulder length hair obviously. No self respecting hippy would wear anything else.

                      Trainers! When you are abroad, you are an ambassador for this country. Get yourself some suede ankle boots or deck shoes, you scruffy Herbert. And while you're at it, off with the Toon strip and on with a decent linen shirt.
