Trainers! When you are abroad, you are an ambassador for this country. Get yourself some suede ankle boots or deck shoes, you scruffy Herbert. And while you're at it, off with the Toon strip and on with a decent linen shirt.

Well, ideally with some very very light beige chinos. But shorts are just about acceptable, as long as they are knee length and khaki. In beach wear as in many things, Field Marshal Montgomery should be your guide.

Me and the missus are having an argument. I hate wearing sandals or flip flops. Wearing trainers with shorts on holiday, are they acceptable?

Flip Flops are for women, walters and nonces.

Real men wear sturdy leather sandals (without socks) or trainers (with trainer socks).

Trainers can be worn with casual trousers or shorts, but never ever with budgie smugglers.

Shoes can be worn only with long trousers, never with shorts or trunks, and defo never with trousers rolled up and a tied hanky on the head (This is a capital offence).
