'Barbaric' wasn't complaining about the local take away.
No, barbaric was an accurate description of their antideluvian methods of slaughtering animals.

Have a read of Fast Food Nation - it will put you off meat of any kind for a while.

Anyway the only meat-eaters who should complain about how meat is killed are those that kill it themselves. And oddly those I know who have worked in slaughter houses, kill game or who even killed a few chickens themselves (abroad I should add) don't complain.

Of course, there are those who look for racism where none exists so I see why you hold that view.
What Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens said about the muslim religion is exactly what I also feel about it. If that makes me a somewhat racist (which I personally don't feel it does) in some eyes here then I couldn't give a sh it. It belongs in the stone age and has no part in a modern Western society. I also think the catholic church is a pile of man made sh ite but just happen to think the Islam is by far a lot more nuttier. These religious types are quick enough to tell me where I'm going after I die so I will respond with 'take your religion and shove it up your arse.

The problem with most religions is that you aren't complaining about the religion itself but the culture that some of the idiots who follow it have placed on it.

The Church of England is a good example.

If you go to one church they will be waving incense around like mad and there definitely won't be a woman anywhere in charge there as if you go to another they could have a female vicar and use much less incense , and if you go to a third they will be no incense, they will be happy-clappy and feeling the "spirit".

Well said - I do find it annoying that the fools (plenty of whom are on this thread) always look at how people act regardless of what the religion teaches. Religion is often abused in order to achieve a political aim or some materialistic benefit - that does not mean the religion in itself is bad.

Yesterday we heard an old lady screaming for help next door. When we called police and they broke the door down we found out she had broken her hip and was lay there for 6 hours (with all sorts of consequences). In this country we are finding that people neglect and leave old people to rot while the elders in eastern communities are respected and looked after till their last breath. Just because the media hypes up negatives in people who belong to a certain denomination, that does not mean to say they are all bad and we can't learn from them and their way of life. I am of mixed heritage myself so I can see the good and bad in all people and "faiths". It just sickens me to see how so many people have become pawns of the media and are talking like parrots for the Sun and the Daily Mirror. Get a brain fools.

Ultimately i don't really give a hoot what religions get up to as long as they don't bother me and they don't do anything too offensive.

Slitting the throat to let the animal bleed out really isn't that barbaric compared to other things you might do. It is far more humane than what happens in the wild.

That's a good point, but isn't the Halal thing a true part of Islam (for good or bad) rather than cultural 'fluff'?

It is but when I've asked people what they do in reality I've been told from different people goes along these 3 themes:
                      1. "Off course we only eat Halal", and
                      2. "If we are in a country where there isn't Halal meat then we will eat meat unless it is from completely forbidden animal", and
                      3. "I will eat any meat as long as it is not from a forbidden animal and I don't care how it is killed".

So while they will all attempt to avoid eating any meat from say pigs, if you ask someone you will get a different answer depending on what they individually believe and how widely travelled they are.
