Which may be a brilliant idea. An inflatable mattress might work better than hardboard as it will level out quite a bit automatically, perhaps with minimal filling in gaps such as between rear and front seats, and will stow away much better than a length of hard board, which to be honest would have probably have had to be folded near the middle anyway.

Best suggestion yet. Might be a goer. Any other ideas?
They are tulip; I agreed to camp a few years ago and had to sleep on one of these fecking things. They ALL go down in the night. Double ones are even worse, as as you get up for a waz, the other side goes down, waking the wife, and when she got out, I would sink to the floor. HOnestly, absolutely, the worst thigns there are. Get an estate car and put a low level canvas bed in there. Or shell out a couple of K for a roof tent and sell it when you're done, and you will get your money back. Got to be an allowable expense

I've got a self-inflating mattress that leaked the first night I used it, but since repairing it, has been fine. But while it's okay for camping, may not be thick enough to smooth out bumps and height differences in a car, which may be several inches.

The only solution I've tried is curled up on the back seat, when I travelled around Europe. That worked, but was not super comfortable.

Anyone tried doing anything a little more fancy, but still relatively simple, like folding down the rear seat and one front seat, and perhaps using a bit of hardboard with some support to make a flat and level bed, and draping a dark blanket from the top of the front seats towards the rear to stay semi-steathy?

How do you sleep in a car?
I have many times slept across the back seat many time when I contracting in Europe and commuting however, in the UK sleeping in the car is frowned upon by the police who invariably bang on the window, ask for ID and cross examine. Consequently I no longer sleep on long journeys in the UK.

If you look on Youtube you will see lots of people who converted their van into stealth campervans. I would suggest doing just that so it will just look like a parked van. If you park in London (there are still many unrestricted streets) you could join a gym for £20 per month and use their show facilities.

Yeah, a van is vastly superior, but I was thinking more for short-term purposes.

If you can manage to sleep on the back seat, might I suggest trying draping a blanket from over the top of the front seat head rests to the rear, pinned between the rear seat and the thing they attach to. That sounds quite stealthy, but only in theory.

Is this thread about IT contract getting juicy £500+ per day City contract and saving money on 5* accomodation and high class escorts by using an old banger and an old Victoria Secrets catalogue?

A neighbour had one when I were a lad, he had the tent attachment you can see in the right hand photo, great idea for the time.
Can't see you getting away with it in Green Partk though.

To increase security and deter criminals, stick this banner on your car: "No money is left overnight in this vehicle. I'm a contractor and my accountant has transferred it all to the Cayman Islands".
