That means that even if 82% of the unemployed didn't want to work (which seems unlikely), there still wouldn't be enough job vacancies for the remaining 18%.

Therefore there will be people who want to work but cannot find a job.

There, that wasn't too hard to understand, was it?
Is there no entrepreneurial spirit in the UK? Creating a job for yourself?

You just have to hang on and tough it out. and eventually the world turns.

Google a famous poem: "Westward look, the land is bright". I like that one :-)

For while the tired waves, vainly breaking,
Seem here, no painful inch to gain,
Far back, through creeks and inlets making,
Comes silent, flooding in, the main.

And not by eastern windows only,
When daylight comes, comes in the light,
In front, the sun climbs slow, how slowly,
But westward, look, the land is bright.

I know the market is hard but is it really impossible to find any work, or are we as a nation still to proud to clean offices for minimum wage?
If you have had a job since before the recession you have an edge. If you lost your job or never had one during the recession you're not likely to be considered for the job. That explains why the chap sound like a genuine victim to me.

If you heard the interview on PM yesterday you would also agree that the guy is genuinely depressed

None, because if you are receiving JSA you have declared yourself fit to work.

And who decides that the best thing for these people is to stop them working?

If he's medically depressed, that's a tough situation to fight back from.

It's about time they invented direct brain injections for depression, to correct the chemical imbalances
I think a kick up the backside might be more effective.
