It's an interesting question actually, the title of this thread. What proportion of the unemployed are, actually scum.

I'm not aristocracy, and I'm not scum. I'm 'Joe Bloggs', like the vast majority of them.

I would imagine that this IT expert has a shiotty attitude and is an arrogant mo fo who thinks his BTEC exempts him from doing anything he may see as beneath him,

BTEC as someone said on that page is about as much use as a 100m swimming badge...

The harder line approach is to simply put everyone to community service if they're on benefits for > six months. Even 95%+ of those on invalidity benefits can do some work, even if it is just envelope stuffing at home or sitting at a charity shop counter.

Because you would first have to sack the people whose job it is to pick litter up off the streets?

There's plenty of litter to be picked up and graffiti to be painted over, let's face it if they were made to work for benefits they may think wait a minute here I might just go out and get a real job and get paid a lot more

It's not as easy as that. There's lots of voluntary work about, but finding someone to pay you for it is a lot harder.

Perhaps we could pay the Council workers to drop litter ON the streets for the unemployed to pick up. Then we could pay dog owners to get their dogs to cr*p all over the pavements, and pay gangs to go and spray graffiti around for the unemployed to paint over.

Makes perfect sense to me.

People get depressed all the time. Those who become clinically depressed probably have too much time to think and work themselves into a state of depression. most people in particularly third world economies cannot afford the luxury of becoming depressed as there is no fall back for them - they just have to get on with it.

You do realise it's a recognised medical condition? Don't confuse "feeling depressed" with suffering from depression? Similar to how hurting your arm is different to having a medical problem with it.

lol Let's face it this country isn't exactly litter free is it? and there's plenty of areas that could use improving therefore it wouldn't cost jobs, it's more a case of councils can't afford to employ the manpower they need to do it because of budget constraints etc

All I'm saying is they're being paid by the state therefore they can earn the money they're being handed,
