Today I did the swimming distance for the first time - 3.8km in 2 hours 2 minutes. That was after a 4.5 mile run and a 5 mile cycle. Now to start building up the cycling distance.

A friend of mine entered (and completed) that a few years back. I'd always thought he was a bit of a mental case....... entry to that race confirmed it.

      Good luck with it Brillopad

BP is your swimming in a pool? I imagine the difference between 4Km doing lengths in a nice pool and 4Km in a lake in the dark in a wetsuit is pretty drastic

I will find out in May - the lake where I do the swim will be open Monday & Friday. Also the swim begins at 6pm so will not be in the dark. Remember that in the pool you lose momentum to turn - though you do get the push off from the side of the pool.

Actually why am I saying it will be easier? It will be alot tougher! I am hard as nails me. I am not Wilmslowesque. Honestly.

I ws looking at having a nice hiking holiday doing the Haute Route this summer with gf Chef, while researching about best routes I came across a blogger who began his hike on the same day as the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc began..

100 miles non stop "run" around the Tour do Mont Blanc hiking path (normally a 9 day hike) in 20 hrs at best or 30-45hrs normal... non-stop!!!

Impressive stuff, I think I could manage it in 17 days with a few days break between each stage.

Good luck with the event and the training beforehand.

I think you need to practice in outdoor swimming - apart from temperature and using a wetsuit, there are two big factors to consider:
                - You can't have a break and hold on to the side
                - Even very small waves will potentially upset your rhythm/style

Then start eating complex carbohydrates (spuds, pasta, bread etc) and get out running, swimming and cycling. Now.

Thing is I still have between 2 and 4kg of body fat. I wanted to lose it before starting the carbs. To prepare for the 3.8km swim I did partake in pancake day - 18 pancakes! But should I start eating carbs more regularly now?

I intend to do all the training I can - but it is going to have to fit around the kids.
