I think I'm going to try to persuade my mum to get a smaller car again. What's a nice cheap, reliable, cheap to maintain, low insurance car? Budget a few grand tops.

Get a Volvo. It is none of those but you will come out better off in a crash between an Aygo and a Volvo.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostI think I'm going to try to persuade my mum to get a smaller car again. I've spoken to her about this today and she's not interested in getting a smaller (or other) car, she wants to keep the Merc. She doesn't know about the insurance implications yet though, and neither do I for that matter - I can't seem to obtain a quote without inputting real details. Given up for now.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostGet a Volvo. It is none of those but you will come out better off in a crash between an Aygo and a Volvo.
Saw this list of cheaper car to insure though:

I suspect under the T&Cs of her current insurance, she has to inform them of her ban immediately. They will presumably ask for some additional premium, although if her cover expires before the ban ends there may be little point.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostI've spoken to her about this today and she's not interested in getting a smaller (or other) car, she wants to keep the Merc. Ignore the insurance and the ban and carry on driving.
If she gets pulled she'll get a further ban and another fine. Still work out cheaper than the insurance anyways.
I've watched them police progs on TV. The scrotes get let off everytime with a slap on the wrist.Comment

Apparently Birmingham is the worst for this, which allegedly explains high insurance rates ...Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostIgnore the insurance and the ban and carry on driving.Comment

If I'd been rolled over as she was yesterday, that might well look like a good option.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostIgnore the insurance and the ban and carry on driving.

Her insurance runs out during the ban, so though I've told her to tell her insurers, it's not something I've pressed or am likely to until she gets her licence back. Her inclination seems to be to keep schtum, but I've told her not to do that. She still doesn't appreciate the significant increase in insurance costs, assuming she can get insurance at all now.Originally posted by Freamon View PostI suspect under the T&Cs of her current insurance, she has to inform them of her ban immediately.
