Yep the ANPR average speed cameras are pretty effective. I have spotted people trying to avoid them by trying to drive alongside a lorry so their numberplate can't be picked up, but you have to do it as you pass every camera, which I reckon is pretty much impossible."A life, Jimmy, you know what that is? Yeah, she's stressed enough. Just found out that it was a speed camera, as she saw the flash. She only knows that it was near the M42 and that they were on the lookout for signs for Evesham and that she hadn't made it on to the motorway from Birmingham airport. I imagine it was one of those seemingly fast looking roads where you have to set your eyes to glued on speed signs. Nice little earner for someone perhaps.Originally posted by k2p2 View PostAn adjournment might be a good thing legally, but it would add to her stress. Calm her down - the prisons are bursting with jailed rioters, so it's highly unlikely she'll be jailed!Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostYeah, she's stressed enough

On the speed awareness course I keep banging on about - they told us cameras are only erected when there have been (forget the exact figures now) something like 3 KSI's (killed or seriously injured) at the stop, which I disputed but was assured it was true. So if it is true it's safe to assume a camera was erected for a valid reason. I argued there are like almost three a mile on one part of the A5 and none at all on the M74 (on a limb there - I haven't driven that for ten years!) but still the same rules I was told.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostYeah, she's stressed enough. But there is a camera very near me that points down a 40 limit immediately after a 30 where it's unlikely to catch anybody, I've no facts but the nature of any deaths on road there - decent but windy 30 onto a wide straight 40, makes you think people probably have been killed or seriously injured on this stretch with drivers booting it on seemingly fast easy bit of road after being held back on the 30...Comment

I wouldn't be surprised if there are also cameras, even if only "warning flash" ones, on what might be called slow down zones coming off motorways, to remind drivers they're off the motorway and should slow down to town mode so to speak.Originally posted by stek View Post

Irony was, about a two weeks after the course, I had an epiphany, I realised (due to change of car) that my MOT was six weeks overdue! So I'd gone there illegally. That's one back for the downtrodden. MOT'd car failed on one headlamp aim only not that that would have helped if caught, as Rita now knows on recent Corrie....Originally posted by OwlHoot View PostI wouldn't be surprised if there are also cameras, even if only "warning flash" ones, on what might be called slow down zones coming off motorways, to remind drivers they're off the motorway and should slow down to town mode so to speak.
Thing is I was late for the course, had to drive like the clappers to get there....Comment

Speed awareness courses would have better effect if they were run by local A&Es and those who attend have to help dealing with horrific injuries people get in car crashes.Comment

In all seriousness, get her a sat nav as a present, then she won't get lost and will know what the speed limit is at all times. It'll take the stress out of driving for her."A life, Jimmy, you know what that is? It’s the s*** that happens while you’re waiting for moments that never come." -- Lester FreamonComment

Another thing worth mentioning - when I went (it was 20 years ago, so things may have changed - check if you can) everyone was given the same time for a morning or afternoon session. I think they were then dealt with 1st come 1st seen, so worth getting there early if she doesn't want to be sitting around for hours getting more and more stressed.Comment

Reminds me of a Peter Kay story (he was brought up a Catholic at Bolton's Mount St Josephs RC School, tutored by nuns) where in 'Sex Education' they were shown graphic pictures of aborted foetuses in order to stop people having sex. Not sure that works, not sure if it works in your example either, you need to forget your 'Sovietskoye mysleniye'' and realise browbeating doesn't really work....Originally posted by AtW View PostSpeed awareness courses would have better effect if they were run by local A&Es and those who attend have to help dealing with horrific injuries people get in car crashes.Comment
