Does the price of driving insurance rocket after a ban?
Yes, what your mum needs is something like Road Angel to warn her when she is speeding. I can quite understand that if she was not concentrating driving a Merc at night, 61 would not seem fast.
I think it's amazing he's still defending his mum. As far as I can tell from the court case and thread so far, Timberwolfs mum is a cross between Myra Hindley, Mary Queen of Scotts and Maureen from Driving school. It's a travesty she hasn't been given lethal injection by Rebecca Loos.

Amusing. Did your insurance rocket when you got your ban?
They said to be there for 10am, and be 30 minutes early, (i.e. 09:30) as were, it transpired, another 20 people, so we endured rush hour Birmingham motorway traffic to get there for 9 am, hoping for an early session. Then waited, and waited and waited... At 2:30pm they asked all those up for driving offences whether they wanted to come back another day as they were busy doing prisoners, who come first. No one volunteered. My mother was flagging by lunchtime, seriously knackered by 4pm when finally her case was heard and then we had rush hour traffic on the way back. Pretty shameful stuff. Everything seemed amateurish, or perhaps they acted convincingly like amateurs, which included making mistakes and not knowing anything.
That's unlucky, and does seem excessive (as indicated by the poll responses) but at least it is over.
And there's still plenty of time for revenge: Speed Cameras
"A life, Jimmy, you know what that is? It’s the s*** that happens while you’re waiting for moments that never come." -- Lester Freamon
I think it was neither lenient not excessive. If she'd been involved in an accident, then doing 60 in a 30 limit could have ended up with driving without due care, or even dangerous driving - and that'd attract much stiffer sentencing.
Shame she had to go through a badly managed court appearance though. It would have been much better if she could have pled guilty by post.
One of my colleagues got caught doing 62 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. He thought it was a 50 limit. 5'000CHF fine and 90 day ban. If it'd been a 50 limit,he'd have got a 250CHF fine.
I dont believe in speed limits for expereinced drivers - they are just a money making scam.
Good drivers know what speed is appropriate for the road and conditions, and so naturally drive at an appropriate speed. Thats not to say we all drive at 100mph everywhere, as even in a 30limit, a good driver will often drive much slower due to hazzards, visibility, people/children, livestock etc..
IMO speed limits should be advisory for anyone whos been driving more than X number of years with a regular annual millage of Y. young driver, or low millage drivers should still be restricted to spped limits as they wont have the experience to judge correct speed for road conditions.
Afterall, If the accident rate was proportional to the amount of times we break the current speed limits, then im sure many members of this forum alone would be crashing on a daily basis...
Motorists are just an easy target when it comes to collecting taxes...

Was your colleague a foreigner? The Swiss do hate foreigners.
