Why would you need a TNS entry to install the client? Surely you install the client and then copy the TNS names file into network\admin?

I did copy the tns file across. It doesn't work. The reason is it cannot resolve the host name. The machine the file was copied from, the tns entry works just fine.

So your problem is nothing to do with installing the client? I obviously fell for your cunning use of the words

In another forum, I told a newbie to post new questions in new threads, rather than tagging them on to the end of the old one. His reply "How do I post a new thread". My reply. "Exactly as you posted your first one".
