Not sure where you park on an oil rig though?
Mind you they seem to really ignore the no mobile rule which is a shame as one reason I enjoying being there is that no other tulip can distract me.merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment

A certain major oil client of mine has resorted to enforcing the action of having plastic lids on all cups from the water dispenser while walking through the office. Yes, that old devil, the pesky and dangerous cold water.
What is so shocking is seeing all these young people obey without questioning the futility and nonsense of this type of ridiculous regulation and how and who allowed this to become policy? Who was there to say "don't be a fcuking berk and waste my time and money"?
It was like a scene out of Stepford Wives with a touch of Atlas Shrugged thrown in for good measure.
My long term contact and friend there pointed out the HSE regulation of holding onto the handrail while traversing a short flight of stairs. All I could say was "John, I'm not a fcuking retard for ****'s sake" and simply ignored it.
End of days.If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.Comment

One client I worked at after having someone killed in the car park of one of their plants for the second time in 2 years went health and safety mad.
Through out the office building had a glass panel through which you could look to check you couldn't open the door onto people and knock them over as all the doors opened outwards.
They decided it was a good idea to put a large red sticker on every single door telling you you needed to STOP, LOOK through the glass panel and then open the door if no-one was there.
They also had tulip signs for how you needed to park in their car park but I never parked their except the Xmas before they brought the new rules in as I had a private parking space nearby.
Oh and if you spotted a health and safety risk or someone breaking the regulations, and didn't report then it was bye bye regardless if you were perm or not."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

I also think they should be named and shamed on the company intranet site.
In that way, staircase use violations will become as much of a social stigma as drink driving
However, I've noticed a spate of fitting doors with motors so that they open and close electronically 'for safety reasons'. You may have seen them - you have to press a giant button to open them rather than simply pull or push them open with the handle. They've fitted them at clientco, and at my railway station.
The net result sems to be the same - the door opens with the slight risk of biffing someone on the 'opening' side (if they are approaching with their eyes closed and without a white stick) - but it takes longer to get through.
In my opinion, the cost of fitting these door contraptions would be better spent on implementing staircase regulations.Comment

My last permie role was a similar situation to Pondy. H&S objective was Zero deaths and Zero Lost Time Injuries. ( They hadn't managed either in the time I was there).
Reverse parking enforced, H&S rules for using stairs. You'd get told off for carrying more than one hot drink at a time.Last edited by DaveB; 4 August 2011, 10:29."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife.Comment

Hmm what you should do it sack anyone who actually follows these rules on account of the fact they must be completely ******* retarded.
Need help on how to use the stairs? If the answer is yes it is highly unlikely you will ever be of any use to this company because you are quite evidently a ****wit.
Which does bring me on to another point my missus was havign a rant about 2 young (ish) accountants (they are about 30) and they have no idea how to do anything unless they have been shown and told what to do - there is no longer any abilaity in this country to work things out for yourself - to give it your best guess and review your resulst and improve the next time.
This is actually because we are prompting more complete control freak women whose sole aim is to secure their own pointless little powerbase and ensure everyone does exactly what they are told.
