As I said, these protestors do not represent 'the British' they are just some spoiled little knobs mixed with some soap-dodging habitual troublemakers.

Of course it wasn't ok. However I doubt that 'all' the miners 'drifted into poverty, alcoholism etc'.

The fact remains that British coal was made uncompetitive due to cheap coal from abroad and the unions did nothing to help prevent the demise of our mines but exacerbated it with union millitancy.

Deep mines in the UK were closing down long before 'Fatcher!'. They were just not viable.

There is still quite a lot of coal production in the UK, but it is all opencast now.
