As I said, these protestors do not represent 'the British' they are just some spoiled little knobs mixed with some soap-dodging habitual troublemakers.Originally posted by markmm View PostNo but it's good to see the British are willing to stand up and be counted.
The unions are a busted flush. Their members will be reluctant to start any kind of shenanigans because their jobs will be on the line.

That was a bit of a mistake.
When nice old women are reading the paper tomorow morning they will be screaming for the pigs to kick the tulipe out of the students next time.Comment

I seem to remember they didn't give in without a fight though. Our streets are lined with uncollected rubbish right now, but that's just because it's snowy and hillyOriginally posted by bogeyman View PostOh will it?
I remember how well that worked out for them in the 1970s and the 1980s.
The miners and Scargill crushed the oppressive forces of the Tory government for ever...
Oh no, wait!

Yes they did manage to murder a Welsh taxi driver by dropping a paving slab off a bridge.Originally posted by d000hg View PostI seem to remember they didn't give in without a fight though. Our streets are lined with uncollected rubbish right now, but that's just because it's snowy and hilly
I think the uncollected rubbish thing is just par for Britain in 2010.

Of course it wasn't ok. However I doubt that 'all' the miners 'drifted into poverty, alcoholism etc'.Originally posted by markmm View PostAll the miners that drifted into poverty, alcoholism etc though is ok.
The fact remains that British coal was made uncompetitive due to cheap coal from abroad and the unions did nothing to help prevent the demise of our mines but exacerbated it with union millitancy.
Deep mines in the UK were closing down long before 'Fatcher!'. They were just not viable.
There is still quite a lot of coal production in the UK, but it is all opencast now.
