It's nice to be safely middle class with all your education paid for by the taxpayer way back when. Heaven forbid those who have that right taken away (and I think it should be a right this is the economic future of the country) should make their feelings known. I can't think of any major political change that has occurred through democracy. Civil action is the only way anything ever changes!

Good luck to them and may it work out the way the poll tax demonstrations did, i.e. change the policy, because democracy aint going to do it.

I wholeheartedly condemn the thugs that caused this mayhem, but I am in some way pleased that these two, pampered royal creatures had their gilded cage rattled for a moment. Charles really is astonishingly aloof, and towers above the everyday concerns of small people. Perhaps this encounter might shake his complacency a bit.

I, on the other hand, don't think a university education is, or should be, a right. I don't support the protesters and I haven't heard a rational argument from any of the NUS spokespersons either, which says a lot for university education to me. They have the ability to change policy by the ballot box, and that's the way it should be.

The economic argument can be dealt with by corporate bursaries.

But what do you mean by "all your education?" What about people who do further degrees? Why should some get a right to stay in free education up to say the age of 25, whereas others have to go work at 18?

If it was just the elite that went to university there wouldn't be the issue, but in the modern world elitism isn't politically correct.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for these protesters as you know that in 10 years when they're all in their middle class jobs they'll be the first to complain about the next generation of students.
