Is there anything more weak-minded and meaningless than having "faith"?

I don't think most thickos know what either is. Maybe American rednecks.

Jesus never said money was bad and we should give everything away. He did say it was wrong to make money your god, i.e view it as most important. Jesus and the dsiciples lived more hand-to-mouth than sharing what they had, IIRC they had nothing and lived on gifts from villages they visited. In Acts though, the early church didn't all share either. People owned stuff but would sell it to provide money for food for everyone as needed. So they didn't renounce ownership, but selfishness.

Take away religion and all the murders, rapes, genocides still would have happened, just the motivational methods to make people do them would have been different.
Better version of what I meant to say in last post.

Or sometimes people are atheists as they've been dumped by a Christian, the other man they fancy is a Christian not a gay much to their disappointment etc.

Most believers just follow their faith without ever thinking about the logic or the justifications. Nothing wrong with that, it gives them comfort, and they have better things to do with their lives. I like the "bad" Christians/Muslims/ whatever, they go through the necessary rituals, don't worry what others do, and adapt their beliefs to suit their lives.

I think (apart from my generally mundane nature) the thing that turned me into an atheist was Catholic Apologetics. The religious would do better to just stick to faith. Once religion starts trying to convince by "logic" it loses adherents because the arguments makes very little sense. Most proofs are mere allegories, for example the comparison of creating the univers with making a watch, creating from nothing is nothing to do with merely rearranging things. People argue there is a soul because we appreciate beauty, but that is consciousness, they are entirely different.

Decent apologetics is clever stuff. However to an extent I agree because if you could prove it, it wouldn't BE faith anymore.

The Apologetics I did was drivelling. It was aimed at 15-16 year olds I suppose, are there any better online sources?

Only vaguely on topic but there's a good thing here on evolution, answers some of the "logical" objections by creationists:

This is the kind of thinking of a typical religious person, making statements that no rational, logical person would ever utter.

I couldn't care less whether you believe in a god or not. I object to the notion that without religion there would be no moral code.

truth hurts, and people hate God for very personal embarrassing reasons, so instead they shield themselves in bs arguments borrowed from a Dawkins book in a failed attempt to make their objections to God seem well thought out

Here's a quick quiz to work out if you are someone with reasonable intellect or a slavering moron who believes in supernatural nonsense.

                      1. How old is the Earth.
                      2. How big would Noah's ark have to have been to load every species onto it (and for a bonus point how did he feed them).
                      3. Is it ok to cut some ones head off because they are described as infidels in your holy text?
                      4. Hopefully you agree that Aids is bad, but are condoms worse?
                      5. Why is your religion the right one?
                      6. When seeing a new born baby is your first instinct to mutilate their genitalia with a knife because your holy book says you should?
                      7. Why are no ones prayers ever answered?
