The last government certainly did. Most the SU of my university went on to become apparatchiks in New Labour.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation! -
Obviously I'm to lazy to check but I wouldn't mind betting that India has the sense to mainly invest in the students with potential, studying subjects most likely to benefit their nation, not millions doing Media Studies with Sociology simply because everyone has a "right" to higher education, innit. The reason for India's strength in the IT area is because they have invested heavily in it.
In China admission is based on exam results and competition is fierce. Sure aTw could enlighten us but I bet they were pretty strict in Russia too. (I expect it was criminal offence to fail an exam)

More and more I am puzzled by what Socialism is about in the Western world with its emphasis on rights at the expense of others, positive discrimination and benefits for the poor regardless of their deserts. I can see some merits in real communism but the woolly irrational views of the left here make no sense at all. It seems to be about nothing but class hatred.bloggoth

Spot on Xog. That is what it all boils down to. Patronising tosspots with over-developed guilt complexes preaching to the rest of that we should all be pussyfooting around the poorer elements in society. And that the only ones that can possibly manage to coordinate this renaissance are those same muddle-headed champagne socialists.Originally posted by xoggoth View PostMore and more I am puzzled by what Socialism is about in the Western world with its emphasis on rights at the expense of others, positive discrimination and benefits for the poor regardless of their deserts. Of course they don't come cheap, but their over-inflated salaries and gold-plated pension schemes are a small price to pay for installing them in palatial central offices, from where they can properly supervise this redistribution of wealth from "middle england" to the many unfortunates manning the ubiquitous sink estates that festoon their safe Labour constituencies.

Tory student scampsOriginally posted by OwlHoot View PostAh rubbish. Half the Cabinet were probably doing much the same when they were students.

I'm glad the students (and their hijackers the SWP) did something radical. About fooking time someone in this godforsaken country showed some balls and let our carp leaders know that they can't ride over us roughshod.
The French do that and look at them: they're richer than us, have better lives and infrastructure, export more etc etc.
In fact I feel so strongly about it I'll start another thread.Hard Brexit now!

I wouldn't mind so much if they actually cared about the poor, dispossessed, and the discriminated against. Though I'm sure some do, the ones I met at University, of whom Clare Solomon exemplifies (in fact given her age, she might well have been there shortly after me), couldn't care less about the masses. They only care about their ideals, their politics, that everyone should agree with them as being self-evidently right, and, absolutely paramount, their own comfort. Self-important, self-righteous and self-deluded.Originally posted by xoggoth View Post...

Here we go again. Go kids.
Hopefully we won't have any numpties chucking fire extinguishers off the top of buildings this time.
