Try having an alcoholic drink in public in Saudi Arabia.

If the Saudi government were to allow drinking of alcohol, there would be an outcry by the great majority of the population. When the verses regarding the alcohol were revealed, people didn't try to hide it but rather they rushed to get rid of it.

In contrast, the prohibition of alcohol in 1920's U.S had the opposite effect. People started distilling in their own homes, purchasing illegally, importing from other countries and the growth of organised crime.

Well what's the difference? The former is part of an inner belief which you can't change by simply changing laws.

Given the huge number of stellar systems in the universe yes.

Although what I like is the double coincidence of the moon being exactly the same size as the sun (when viewed from the earth)

Interestingly enough, the sun is 400 times the diameter of the moon and 400 times the distance which makes them appear the same size. Without this phenomena we wouldn't have a total eclipse. Not sure what the significance of eclipses are though.

Religion certainly can act as an enforcement of good law (which banning alcohol may well be) but unfortunately it also enforces a lot of daft, unecessary and intrusive law. Because it is based on faith that law, and sometimes the punishments, are not subject to rational debate based on analysis of the results.
