When the US forces liberated the camp and rounded up the SS guards soldiers gave the prisoners handguns so that they could take there vengeance.
IMO the concentration camp in many ways was many levels darker than an extermination camp. Your fate was over in hours if you ended up in Auschwitz, however in Sachsenhausen the detail of daily torture was almost too much to bare, even for me and I consider myself someone of a strong mind.
