I have no talents in these areas (apart from possibly philosophy) but I am planning to become a film director after imminent SKA success. -

I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.Comment

This is probably true - it never bothered me however.Originally posted by Franckoincluding programming too

What would be your ideal first film project? Is there a story you're yearning to tell?Originally posted by AtWI am planning to become a film director after imminent SKA success.Comment

Yes I can imagine it. Its an art house film depicting a lonely moustachiod Russian in a bedsit in Birmingham, who yearns to lose his virginity, while dreaming of riches beyond his wildest dreams.Originally posted by Lucifer BoxWhat would be your ideal first film project? The sort of art house film el duder should invite his admin chick to see, assuming he can pluck up courage to speak to her that is. He can even buy a bargain bucket of Sprite in the auditorium to reassure himself.Originally posted by sasguruYes I can imagine it. He's not lonely. He shares the bedsit with 15 other Russians and one Pole. They amuse themselves by listening to the Pole's tales of Spitfire flying ancestors. And eating Borscht.Originally posted by sasguruYes I can imagine it. Many less fortunate souls can but dream of living in Birmingham, the Vienna of the West Midlands.Comment

Here are some quotes for you AtW from your masters
More computing sins are committed in the name of efficiency (without necessarily achieving it) than for any other single reason - including blind stupidity.
-- William A. Wulf
We should forget about small efficiencies, say about 97% of the time: premature optimization is the root of all evil.
-- Donald E. Knuth
We follow two rules in the matter of optimization:
Rule 1. Don't do it.
Rule 2 (for experts only). Don't do it yet - that is, not until you have a perfectly clear and unoptimized solution.
-- M. A. Jackson
Nothing is less productive than to make more efficient what should not be done at all.
-- Peter DruckerComment

Dunno about Russians, most of them may still be in Russia defending Stalingrad, but it isn't half difficult to get rented accomomodation recently that hasn't been taken by Poles, Hungarians and Latvians.
It must be much same with many jobs that I can see. No 1 son has several Hungarians working with him at Sainsburies. Filling low paid jobs that Brits don't want to do, some would say. Except that, before last May, the same company was still finding the staff to provide the same service. I can't actually recall a shortage of taxi drivers in the early 60s before it became an almost exclusively Asian occupation either. Oooh, mustn't question the necessity and benefits of immigration, so sorry!! What was I thinking of?
PS Why this unholy alliance of Jaberwocky and Fungus? It ain't natural.
PPS I am backing ATw to make at least a bit of money from SKA. Not a total dipstick in my opinion.bloggoth
