Train 10 minutes late this morning. Did get a seat in first class. Heating was turned on, miraculously!

Many OAPs yapping about saving money, no smells and a fully equipped chamber orchestra which didn't think to play any music for the commuting public.

Now sitting in shiny new 'sprinter' train to the wonderful Barendrecht.

Train filled beyond capacity. Not smelly. No orchestra today.

      Two facts for Dutch railway management to consider when buying rolling stock in future;

      - the average man in Holland is 6ft 2 inches, not 3ft 4in. Worth considering when arranging seating.

      - the average person in Holland is in possession of a bladder, which needs emptying from time to time.

This is already turning into a most unsatisfactory journey.

The train companies are doing the same in the UK. New carriages for journeys under one hour will no longer have toilets.

Whatever cost considerations there may be, I find it simply uncivilised to not provide a loo in a train. Utterly revolting. Those people who have taken this decision are not worthy of even licking the boots of the cleaning staff until they have learnt basic rules of decency, and should never be placed in a position which involves taking decisions that affect others.

Sprinter train on time this morning. No smells or OAPs. No orchestra. Seats too small. Chav listening to mp3 in first class.

Got a seat opposite a largebussomed young woman. It was a bit distracting when I was trying to read.
About halfway a sickly looking elderly woman sat wown next to me on the seat my suitcase was occupying, not happy. Elderly woman got off at the hospital, I expect her to travel away feet first.

Train to Rotterdam 10 minutes late this morning. No OAPs, smells, orchestras or cellists. No chavs.

This evening´s train is so bloody cold I´m wearing my scarf and wooly hat. Progress report to follow.

What I like about Rotterdam Station is the large underground secured bicycle park. You can even get your cycle repaired while you are away.

In Rotterdam do they still have red carpets on the town centre pavements at Christmas?

I feared for her health, though, in this cold weather.

                      Trundle Train. On time.

What I realised this morning is that I could have caught the Intercity 4 minutes later and arrived only 1 minute after said Trundle Train. At a closer platform to the bus stop too.

Weirdo on bus, but he did help an old gent and his luggage on and off.
