You could always mention that you are in good (?) company, Cherie Blair having been caught driving a vehicle without a valid MOT a few years back. I would have given her 9 points for being married to a tosser who is stuffing our country. Does that endorsement code exist?

Isn't it ironic. If you'd nicked the car instead of bought it, the chances are you'd be looking at a bit of community service. First offence and all that. But now you're middle class scum (the worst kind) and you fall into the "let's make an example of him" category.
Shall we run a sweepstake on the outcome? I'll kick off with a 6 month ban and £1000 fine (you narrowly escape a prison term).
Best of luck mate, there but for the grace of whatsisname and all that. I found out just before Xmas that my MOT ran out in September. Had to take 2 days off work, making it the most expensive MOT in history. Except if I'd been pulled, that is...
His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

I have one of those hand held PC's. I bought it to enter collection notes for rare fungi, but it also makes a brilliant organiser, reminding me when my VAT return is due.

Sorry, for a moment I thought you were telling us you had met a very friendly copper
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

He will get fine and points - maximum, there is no chance for prison sentence of any kind.

tracked down the license - so all i have to do is pay the fine and explain the discrepancy in the dates on the MOT
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

              I preferred version 1!

Put a few £50 notes inside your paper license - always works in Russia

Tony, you don't have the best of luck with your cars, do you.

All sorted. Just got back from dealing with the rozzers. Handed over all the paperwork and just kept the girl on the desk talking while she was supposed to be checking my documents. I now have a bit of paper to say that everything was in order. So £60 and the points then.

Cheers for all the advice on this.

Marc - No I don't have the best of luck with cars. Do you remember the saga with the sub frame. The Ford garage on the outskirts of Staines quoted me £540 for it. The local Ford garage did it for £270. That was what it failed its MOT on.

Good result, as future ref, what make and model was the unmarked car?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
