Oh Dear again - there was an announcement just a moment ago on the BBC about closures.

Here's the website you need to keep an eye on.

All flights from Holland to be cancelled.

Just wait and see if this puny little volcano sets off Katla, a much bigger and very restless volcano right next to it. The economic crisis will look like a storm in a teacup if the sun’s blocked out over Europe.

Aeroplanes are one thing , but what about washing left out to dry. Is it safe?

just had this in one of our internal emails.

"BAA anticipate that all flights in and out of all London airports will be suspended from 12:00 today. Therefore they advise passengers intending to fly from this time not to travel to the airport today."

          link to baa.

Depends where you need to get to in the UK, but you could get a train to Paris (Gare du Nord) then Eurostar. The ferry is probably your best bet.

It might not be safe actually. Volcanic ash is an extremely fine dust which gets into the tiniest blood vessels in your lungs and blocks them, preventing the absorption of oxygen by the blood. In other words, breathing it in can suffocate you. It’s a bit like asbestos but worse. There probably won't be much of the ash on your clothes but still best to rinse them before wearing them.
