Never been in a union (my university had a "Guild of Students" rather than an SU), but I have worked where union negotiation had brought me a shorter working week.If you have to add a

I worked at one place where the union reasoned thus:
If a worker is on holiday, then they're denied the chance to earn overtime. To compensate for this, workers should get a holiday bonus of 10% for each working day taken as holiday.
What amazed me, is that this was accepted by management.
