I think I've lost about £13k in 4 years on my 55 plate current motor (bought pre-registered with 8 miles on the clock, though I think I paid maybe a grand too much for it at the time looking back). I think that works out about the same as leasing it, around £270 a month. I have an asset worth about £8k but I suppose I've lost the interest on the initial £21k. I suppose that works out about even in the end. I think I'll be keeping it another 2 years by which time I guess it'll be worth about £5k.

Friends of ours have a kumquat. It's quite a nice car."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

Two BMW's... you must be Über successful.
Do you have two pairs of string back driving gloves or do you use the same pair?

Right now is a good a time to buy a new car. The age -old rule of never buying new may no longer hold true.
Not too many new cars are getting bought, which means decent 2nd hand motors are holding their value or even going up. The depreciation curve on most new cars now is probably fairly gentle. Plus the car companies are raising their prices in the UK because of the long-term weakness of the pound.Cats are evil.Comment

Also end Jan/Feb is a good time to buy a 59, as they'll be trying to get rid of them before the 10's come out.
Strength of the Euro is certainly affecting car values.Comment

nissan kashkai is a god car, I am well pleased with the pathfinder which was my first brand new car purchase of my life
was thinking after the pathfinder to go for an X5
a friend has one of the new x5's he was in the mountains skiing, it was -20 and one of the headlight glasses cracked, bmw replaced it under the warranty, but what a job it was to replace the headlight glass, it's a sealed unit and they had to take the whole front off and some radiators to get to it !!!!!
imagine, that happening after the warranty has run out you'd be talking a 2k gbp job !!!
i think to get the Mitsubishi Pajero next time - new of course
we shall see

Alexey,
I would imagine, already or not long from now, you will be able to have any car you want
a friend's wife just bought a new qashqai + 2, they are really good value for money and 7 seats
the economics of contractor car ownership eh
an old one, or a new one and peace of mind ?
