Seems a good few AA blokes are sharks. Had a similar experience where the AA bloke destroyed the battery. He then told me I needed a whole new wiring loom on a motorbike, which as a favour, he'd be able to do for me. It actually only needed a new fuel pump...

Like I said you should ask on here.

    That's a bit steep.

the economics of contractor car ownership eh

an old one, or a new one and peace of mind ?

    Milan.
Or in the case of BMW buy an old one for peace of mind, and only a new one if you like repeatedly visiting the dealers and have a spare car to tide you over whilst they iron out all the faults.

a friend has one of the new x5's he was in the mountains skiing, it was -20 and one of the headlight glasses cracked, bmw replaced it under the warranty, but what a job it was to replace the headlight glass, it's a sealed unit and they had to take the whole front off and some radiators to get to it !!!!!

imagine, that happening after the warranty has run out you'd be talking a 2k gbp job !!!

i think to get the Mitsubishi Pajero next time - new of course

Not too many new cars are getting bought, which means decent 2nd hand motors are holding their value or even going up. The depreciation curve on most new cars now is probably fairly gentle. Plus the car companies are raising their prices in the UK because of the long-term weakness of the pound.

Also end Jan/Feb is a good time to buy a 59, as they'll be trying to get rid of them before the 10's come out.

Strength of the Euro is certainly affecting car values.

Just a hard working contractor. What are 'string back driving gloves'? Something for the golf course?

    picky

For seeing clients it's a Mazda 6 MPS, and for weekends: video.

Just ignore the jealous types on here. If they spent half as much energy fruitfully instead of snide remarks, they could have the same.
Cool. They dont bother me none though and topless driving is such fun.

I think that works out about the same as leasing it, around £270 a month. I have an asset worth about £8k but I suppose I've lost the interest on the initial £21k. I suppose that works out about even in the end. I think I'll be keeping it another 2 years by which time I guess it'll be worth about £5k.
Is this a math problem ? I give up.
