Seems a good few AA blokes are sharks. Had a similar experience where the AA bloke destroyed the battery. He then told me I needed a whole new wiring loom on a motorbike, which as a favour, he'd be able to do for me. It actually only needed a new fuel pump...Originally posted by AtW View PostAbout the price to pay at main dealer for this sort of job, cheaper actually than others had it.
Tried some local garage that the AA bloke drove me to and they were total tulip, said it was ok only for me to have same issue later, *****rs - they drained my battery also and it cost me to replace it.

Like I said you should ask on here.

Or in the case of BMW buy an old one for peace of mind, and only a new one if you like repeatedly visiting the dealers and have a spare car to tide you over whilst they iron out all the faults.Originally posted by milanbenes View PostAlexey,
I would imagine, already or not long from now, you will be able to have any car you want
a friend's wife just bought a new qashqai + 2, they are really good value for money and 7 seats
the economics of contractor car ownership eh
an old one, or a new one and peace of mind ?
Milan.

I am sticking to my PUG 307 for the time being...Originally posted by milanbenes View Postnissan kashkai is a god car, I am well pleased with the pathfinder which was my first brand new car purchase of my life
was thinking after the pathfinder to go for an X5
a friend has one of the new x5's he was in the mountains skiing, it was -20 and one of the headlight glasses cracked, bmw replaced it under the warranty, but what a job it was to replace the headlight glass, it's a sealed unit and they had to take the whole front off and some radiators to get to it !!!!!
imagine, that happening after the warranty has run out you'd be talking a 2k gbp job !!!
i think to get the Mitsubishi Pajero next time - new of course
we shall see

Not too many new cars are getting bought, which means decent 2nd hand motors are holding their value or even going up. The depreciation curve on most new cars now is probably fairly gentle. Plus the car companies are raising their prices in the UK because of the long-term weakness of the pound.
Also end Jan/Feb is a good time to buy a 59, as they'll be trying to get rid of them before the 10's come out.
Strength of the Euro is certainly affecting car values.

Just a hard working contractor. What are 'string back driving gloves'? Something for the golf course?Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostTwo BMW's... you must be Über successful.
Do you have two pairs of string back driving gloves or do you use the same pair?

Is this a math problem ? I give up.Originally posted by Fred Bloggs View PostI think I've lost about £13k in 4 years on my 55 plate current motor (bought pre-registered with 8 miles on the clock, though I think I paid maybe a grand too much for it at the time looking back). I think that works out about the same as leasing it, around £270 a month. I have an asset worth about £8k but I suppose I've lost the interest on the initial £21k. I suppose that works out about even in the end. I think I'll be keeping it another 2 years by which time I guess it'll be worth about £5k.
