The problem is, the sort of tossers I am objecting to do not see those two points as being aligned. They arrogantly assume that anyone travelling slower than them is "in their way", regardless of what strategy they may be employing.
As it happens, I have been driving for well over 30 years and have driven the best part of a million miles, in all sorts of vehicles, in all manner of countries worldwide. I have had few problems in all that time, so don't need any johnny-come-lately preaching to me about "how to drive properly", thanks all the same.

It is not rocket science to adhere to (or at least close to) clearly defined speed limits. If people made more of an attempt to do that then they might well find that, magically, less people were getting "in their way".

Ooooooh plenty of time to pick up all those "bad habits" then...

Anyway, back on topic, something that annoys the tulip out of me is people who cannot think without speaking, like for example my colleague who is constantly reading whatever is on the screen in front of him out loud for no good reason.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

As is the norm in Germany.

Even in the UK, if I am in the outside lane and I see in my rear view mirror (something that MLHs don’t do) a car fast approaching I pull over and let it go past. No problem, I don’t resent them nor to I try to impose the speed limit upon them.

30 years of experience should have given you some indication of how poor lane discipline is not just about letting other people past its also a major cause of unnecesary congestion.
I've lost count of the number of times I've seen lanes 2 and 3 grind to halt where as lane 1 is magically empty of traffic.

On second thoughts, carry on as you are. Keeps lane 1 clearer of traffic for me

A few hundred years ago and it would have been considered abnormal to read without saying the words out loud. Libraries would have been annoying places.

You cannot equate the UK with Germany. There is no max legal speed limit there essentially, only an advisory one of
                130kp/h.
Besides, most of their autobahns only have 2 lanes. Not really apples with apples is it?

Quite sensible, and what I also do. However, to take up the cudgels on behalf of (some) MLHs (as you term them), why would they care what people in the outside lane are doing? They are too busy "hogging" the middle lane apparently.
To summarise, a proportion of drivers (usually, though not exclusively, women and old men!!) spend way too much time in the middle lane. Undeniably true. However, what is also true is that there are a proportion of drivers (usually, though not exclusively, younger men ), that seem to feel that the 70 MPH speed limit on the motorways is antiquated (a stance I have some sympathy with), and that as a consequence it can be largely ignored. Subsequently, anyone that does not conform to that school of thought is likely to get in their way at some point, and so those people get labelled as MLHs and poor drivers. Quite a grey area in reality, but for these young inexperienced timebombs to consider it selfish and indicative of poor driving technique for others not to maneouvre 1 lane to the left when they are too selfish and lazy to maneouvre 1 lane to the right is hugely hypocritical.

You see? There you go making presumptions about how I drive. I was simply choosing to play Devil's Advocate, and flag up the fact that a great many, though clearly not all, drivers that spend time in the Middle Lane do not sit there in perpetuity.
Another indicator of poor judgment that sits quite well with your other assertions on lane discipline and general motorway etiquette sadly.

<<If Lane 1 is the truck lane, and Lane 3 is the BMW-with-front-foglights-on lane, then Lane 2 is that motoring no man's land. The kind of lane where the speeds are neither annoyingly slow nor frighteningly fast. The kind of lane where you can just switch on the cruise control and never have to worry about overtaking, moving over or really doing anything at all. Apart from looking in the glovebox to see if you have enough boiled sweets to last you until Skegness.

Lane 2 is the lane of the average. And as such, it is religiously populated by the kind of ape-brained simpleton who neither has the observation and anticipation needed to make progress in the inside lane or the talent to mingle with the high speed cut and thrust of the outside lane.

I think you'll find that you're the one obsessed with presuming that we're all trying to get everywhere at 90mph.

Whilst also managing to look sexist and ageist. Well done
