Some kids are good with their heads, some are good with their hands. It's a fact of life, no matter how much the politically correct people tell every child they have/be/do it all.
I have one on an aviation course (pre-degree) and the other is on a trade-skills course: the important thing is what holds their interest long enough for them to get a qualification (and hopefully a job) in it
. If a lad can't cope with the thought sitting in an office with a load of 'suits' then there's no point pushing him into it and seeing him miserable.
Maybe the son-in-law's business isn't doing too well, and this is a round-the-houses way of telling you he can't afford to keep your son on much longer?
