Sage advice. Here's what I tell my clients-

Client- We just haven't got time to do it right/that way/as the book/how you say etc... it needs to be running by 5.00pm tonight.

Me- OK. But when we deploy this and it breaks, we then have plenty of time to do it not once but twice, three or four times do we until we get it right?

    Client- Oh, yeah etc..........

Well I binned the UAT environment, and hijacked something they call "Pre Production" which is much more the sort of thing. I locked the whole lot down under change control, source safe and considered employing a large gorilla with a sub machine gun to stop people messing around with the environments.

We have delayed go live until a successfull deployment to "Pre Prod" happens. The next go live is tomorrow morning at 7:30 am.

What's worse is they have capped my hours at 8 per day, expect me to be in a 7:30 am and won't let me leave before 5. I am already doing 9.5 hour days.

Goddamit I wHinged, and was only 1.5 hrs from going the whole day.

So, you are doing the work your predecessor should have done, taking unfair abuse, working unpaid overtime, doing activities you are not paid for, working hours as dictated by management, fixing things that are not your problem and generally baling them out of the tulip for no benefit.

                I didn't realise you'd gone permie.
