HAHAHAHAHAHA! Im really, really surprised people think that someone leaving, possibly being replaced under a cloud, should leave everything spic and span, with up to date notes to boot!

**** that! If \ when my client tells me Im being 'replaced' and Im to do a 'handover' to my replacement, I wont be giving him \ her the best of assistance either!

Sorry, its a hard life out here and Im not going to give any 'replacement' a ******* easy ride, especially at my expense (or should I say, my job!).
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

Really? You're already being replaced so it's your job to do it... you know the thing they're paying £100s/day for until you leave.

Not to mention you shoot yourself in the foot if they ever want to expand their team.

Back in 1996 I got a fantastic handover from a departing Development Manager. He had been offered The Gig Of A Lifetime so the client was letting him leave at short notice and I got the gig of replacing him at short notice.

He told me everything I needed to know to hit the ground running. And he was spot on with his advice and handover notes.

Many months later we got a request for a reference for him and I gave the agent a glowing reference for the bloke (knowing the civil service manager would not).

Don't tulip on the doorstep as you leave.

(Do it at the back of an obscure cupboard, or under the false floor in the machine room, or inside a server that's waiting to be installed.)

I excelled at that one this evening. Thanks Zips.

Now all you have to do is buy the two-three weeks you'll need to
              properly release all the 'extras'.

If the UAT has gone OK so far I'd go for the option of:-

              1) copying UAT (only) to live. Assumes it doesn't have dependency on the untested stuff.
              2) add all the extra bits from your predecessor's various places into UAT.
              3) UAT and release the extras as a second release.

Anything else is courting disaster, don't be bullied into taking a chance.
Ask yourself/client why these features didn't go into UAT.

I know you know all this but I'm on the bench and bored.....

Thanks mate. It's a shame you are on the bench, you could be out there fighting the good fight. You sounds like a good bloke to have around on a project. I wish you a speedy return to contracting (if you wish of course)

YOU BET I F****** AM. Sorry for shouting. I am going to lock down the UAT environment, and put the whole lot under change management as of 8am tomorrow morning. And if they don't like it, they can get someone else.

In the mean time I am still trying to get UAT back in step. They have promised me that the rest of the week will be spent on process development so this never happens again. I think this may take longer than 3 days.
