WHS. Throw it back on them and get it in writing, they'll then think a little more carefully and probably back off. If they do give you the go ahead to throw it into live then it's a chance to show them you are up to it and will get it working.

Escalate this and put a rocket up things (so to speak). Get all decisions and opinions on email. Make it clear you are a professional and you don't work like this, but suggest ways to progress properly.
