Dunno, for the 'right' job and £ I would do it, mind you its gotta be something interesting.

I think if you had been on the bench for say 6 months then you might take a permy, even if it was to tide you over until you got yourself the 'better paying' contract.

That's how I feel about it too.

However, you can only hear "But you've been contracting for many years, why apply for permie now?" and get the standard response "Well, we won't put contractors forward for permie roles because you dodgy buggers always bugger off when a better paid contract comes along" before realising applying is futile anyway.

I still do apply once in a while, and give them the "I would have a lot to bring, I could do this really well, it would be a little challenging but just enough to keep me interested, this role would suit my life right now, need stability for a few years, chance to not have worries, etc. ..." bunny but always get countered with the "Nah, you're just another dodgy contractor."

I dished out some business cards; lots of gossip, no actual concrete progress that I could see. But it does mean some people in the kind of organisations I want to work for, know I am available and have my details. It's one of those things that might pay off next week, or in two years.

So, can you get away with "I've been a permanent employee of SomeCo Consulting for the last X years, during which time I have provided consultancy to clients such as ... "

Still I suppose recruiters have seen that ruse before.

If you had worked for Accenture, IBM, etc then no one would query this.

Interview, tomorrow (13th) afternoon, London, IT services provider, project management, 77% of the rate I was last on.

                  Hoo-blinking-ray!

Big decision 1: haircut, or pony tail?

Big decision 2: shave, or beardy weirdy?

                      Thank you.

If it doesn't work out, we're moving. Sadly, from a low unemployment area, to the highest unemployment area, to have better access to other higher unemployment areas. Link.
