    sh!tty

I think things will be pretty much like they are now. I don't think there will be a post recession boom. I set myself a break even target of 6 months work for 2009 and will be going for something similar for 2010. One plus is that a few of my local rivals in my niche have taken the bait and gone perm

In the UK, much the same.

In the US, things seem to be looking up though. I was talking to a mate of mine at UKOUG this week who now works in California, and he was saying that the attitude out there is so much more positive than back home. Everyone here is still doing the "we're doomed, we're all going to die" mentality rather than trying to lift spirits and get some "oomph" into the economy.

I did point out that he lived in Scotland when he was in the UK, however.

Had an interesting chat with the lady who deals with membership at the PCG yesterday.

They are seeing a lot of contractors jumping ship and going permie, but just as many coming the other way. Ex-Permies who are going contracting after being made redundant.

Can't see things getting any better for the next 12-18 months myself. Even if there are a few more jobs around there is far more competition to get them so the chances of extended bench time are still pretty high imo.

                      Nope

There is no alternative really - the place was unique in character, which was why I kept going back there for twenty-one years.
