Just had a call:
Agent: "It's Archie from Gitco Recruitment. Do you want the PM job at Widgetsoft or what?"
Me: "Eh? Err, yes. I sent you my CV a while ago."
Agent: "But I see you have uploaded your CV onto Monster again this week."
Me: "That's because I'm still available and I have tidied up my CV a bit."
Agent: "So you aren't serious about the Widgetsoft job then?"
Me: "I am serious about it, that's why I responded. But I haven't heard anything for a couple of weeks; I thought it had gone."
Agent: "That's because they've only just started the shortlisting this week. So what do you think you're playing at putting up your CV saying you're available?"
WTF?
Me: "Well, I am available."
Agent: "So you don't want the Widgetsoft job?"
Me: "I do."
Agent: "So what the hell are you playing at putting your CV online? I don't think you want this job at all."
I tried convincing him but he went into the "typical dodgy contractor, can't be trusted" routine. So I don't think I'll be put forward for that role. And why did he find my CV online? Because he is looking for other people to put forward for the role (it is in my specialist niche field and probably still has slots free in his "only 3 CVs may be submitted" submission).
New Rule: "When you have applied for a gig, you are not allowed to tell anybody anywhere that you are available. Since nobody will tell you if you are not shortlisted, you can never apply for a 2nd gig for the rest of your life." Or something like that.My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment
